it seems somehow the weekend gets me lazy, and i don't post as often as i'd like.  but i do do art.
today the 30th is like 4 days since i posted.
so friday 27th i did a painting it came out really good and i like to brag about it.

28th i decided i want to do a series of pictures similar to this one because i know the colors well and it is the same season.  the composition will change.  i thought of this because one time i went to a show by obanass barbarian(not spelled right, but that is how his name sounds to me).  he had a bunch of small paintings that were all similar that were beach scenes.  i didn't realize then that a bunch of pictures you take at one place can be a bunch of similar paintings to create a series.

29th-sunday, a day of rest.
30th-today, i'm posting my painting.  and i will plan out more of my paintings in my series from the many pictures i have taken.  my goal this week is to start and finish a painting every day or every other day.  on an 8x10 canvas that shouldn't be too hard.

today i have spent some time reading art books.  i took some notes/rules from them and i plan to cut them out and stick them up in my art room.  tomorrow i will read about painting the seasons, because each season has different problems associated with it.
i picked a picture to paint from the many i have taken.  i sketched it, and i have found where i want the eye to go in the painting, and thought about how i am going to change the picture.  i have picked a simple picture because it is easy to get overwhelmed with complicated pictures.

so i'm just a little nervose about starting to paint.  so i've just organized my photographs into catagories... green and trees, distance and sky, buildings, people and buildings.  i hope to make some rules to remeber as i paint.  for example, contrast is what the eye goes to first, blue-er and blurry is farther away, the eye also goes to texture and people and symbols.  trees are darkest, sky is lightest, ground plane is light.  thats what i've got so far for today. :)

ok, i know i haven't posted in a while.  but i do think about art every day.  thursday i went to the idaho art lab to see their new show opening.  i thought it was very good, and inspiring.
friday i tried to copy a style i found at the art lab, but not sure i created it well enough
saturday...
sunday, doesn't count.
monday...
today, tuesday, i went and saw what was in the spori gallery at byui.  it was also very inspiring.  i loved some of the texture in his oil paintings.  oh, and i saw the painting by ovanas barbarian in the i-center, but didn't have time to spend studieing it.
my husband just walked in the door and had a package for me in the mail.  i can finally start using my zillion of pictures for photo reference for art!  my photos came!
now tomorrow i can really dig into my art!

practiced same technique

hello

i haven't sketched yet today, but i plan to soon.  i just wanted to say hello to everyone.  i am somewhat new to blogs and have thus done much research on them.  i am not the kind of person that likes to blab all about myself and tell everyone how great i am or the kind that will just share my day with anyone and everyone that is interested.  blogs seem that way to me.  but some things people should know about me are that i am an artist.  i graduated from byui in spring '11 and would love to make some money at making art.  this sketching blog is for motivation and accountability as if i was reporting to a teacher what i have learned and practiced in the areas of art.  then as if i was my own teacher i look at my progress and gain more confidence and see how i might improve.
